History of Apalachicola Mardi Gras

For many years after the turn of the century (1900's) Apalachicola had a major multi-day city festival called Mardi Gras. This was long before our current Seafood Festival was created. Then, World Wars and a Great Depression intervened and the celebration was lost...until 2004, when Habitat for Humanity in the persons of Don and Pam Ashley began the process of bringing it back.

Fast track to 2019~ The Mardi Gras event held at the Fort Coombs Armory in Apalachicola, Florida brought back the glamor intended for a ball.

Masks were worn as people danced to the sounds of Tony & Kristi Partington.  The music got attendees on their feet for the Dance Contest!

The meal included New Orleans flavors and the mood was fun-filled.  The Silent Auction was lively and every item donated was won by someone who appreciates the value of this great organization.

Thanks to all who attended, donated, or took part in helping this great organization to continue.
