Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County FL

Our Mission
To eliminate poverty housing from Franklin County Florida and to make decent, affordable shelter for all people a matter of conscience.

Habitat for humanity provides home ownership opportunities for low-income families. Working under the faith-based principle that no profit should be gained from assisting those in need, Habitat for Humanity charges no interest on the homes that it builds and the selected family  pays more affordable monthly payments.

  • Chapter organization began in January 2003
  • 400 hours of sweat equity are required of the new homeowner before moving into a Habitat home.
  • The estimated monthly payment for a Franklin County Habitat home, including mortgage, insurance, taxes and maintenance escrow is $500 - $700.
  • Franklin County Habitat homes are aimed to be located equally in all areas of Franklin County.

Mr. Jimmy signs his congratulations to Franklin County FL's new affiliate at his 79th birthday party in Plains

 The Jimmy Carter Myth

It's been amusing over the years to see the number of folks who hope for a President Carter sighting, since he "runs Habitat". Actually, he's just our most famous carpenter.

Mr. Jimmy is one of the most effective, and oldest (in service) friends of Habitat. He grew up in Plains, GA with those who developed the program. And today, in his 80's, he still sponsors a build one week a year somewhere in the world, and he and Miss Rosalyn physically work on the site. We have a signed document of congratulations from the ex-president in our office, received in 2003, the year we began operations.
