Habitat for humanity provides home ownership opportunities for low-income families. Working under the faith-based principle that no profit should be gained from assisting those in need, Habitat for Humanity charges no interest on the homes that it builds and the selected family pays more affordable monthly payments.

The Jimmy Carter Myth It's been amusing over the years to see the number of folks who hope for a President Carter sighting, since he "runs Habitat". Actually, he's just our most famous carpenter. Mr. Jimmy is one of the most effective, and oldest (in service) friends of Habitat. He grew up in Plains, GA with those who developed the program. And today, in his 80's, he still sponsors a build one week a year somewhere in the world, and he and Miss Rosalyn physically work on the site. We have a signed document of congratulations from the ex-president in our office, received in 2003, the year we began operations. |
